I too would like some more pictures of your cowl as the results
of my initial engine test should be completed in 3/4 weeks and
I suspect that I too will have to do some cowl modifications.

First, I have to confess. I didn't do the top cowl inlet openings
myself. My hangar neighbour couldn't stand to see me butcher up
more fibreglass after what he saw me do to the bottom, so he very
kindly offered to do it for me. Of course I couldn't refuse. But
I didn't actually watch him do it. I know the top lips are
rounded up inside for less turbulence. The parts that were redone
and old pieces cut out were up to about 15 or so inches back.
Hard to tell actually, because he did such a good job, you can't
even tell what is original and what is new. Maybe some more
pictures would help if you want. I do like it, though, and while
still sexy, it has a slightly more aggressive look to it. What
more can I tell you!?

Walter:
I still have a week or two before my engine comes
back, and have decided to
enlarge my cowl openings thanks to your Arlington
photo. Any tips would be
appreciated. For example, I imagine you glass over the
junction of the top
lip where it joins the area behind the spinner inside
the cowl before you
cut the old part out. Do you apply the entire new
top, then cut the old one
out from the inside? How far aft does the raised top
go? There appears to
be a slight discontiuity in the curvature about 12"
behind the spinner. Did
you use that as a starting point?

I made it down to Arlington yesterday, and here are
a few pics of
the Murphy planes I saw there.
