Couple of pics posted to "403 - Fly In Photos" [didn't know what
category to post them into]

Older gentleman decided he would not tie the tail of his plane down
before hand-propping it. Forgot he left the throttle half open. Props
it. Starts [of course]. Luckily prop misses him as the plane roars
off. Guy tries to stop it; gets run over by the tail. Wing hits major
steel beam on corner while prop chews through the hangar door.

Can't see it in the pic, but fuselage where wing joins is bent. Hence,
plane is pretty much totaled.

Good lesson for all of us.

Thanks for the reminder Ted - I hand prop my Aeronca Chief all the time.
It looks like a Chief but it looks like he has lights in the wing which
of course means electrics. Where is the plane and what kind is it?

Hi Jim !

Looks like a PA-11 Cub, or maybe an early PA-18 Super Cub ....

One good trick when hand swinging is to always turn the fuel OFF
after priming & pulling through, before turning the mags on - that way,
even if it gets away, it won't go more than a minute or so ! ;-)
