Float Ramble 2006 to Lake Temagami ??!!

by Wayne G. O'Shea
Just pullin your chain Walter!!..you know that!

Off in the morning with another load of docks on the big trailer. Looks like
rain all friggin week..sure hope the weather man is wrong!

Maybe You, Bruce, Al etc should see what will work for a group trip across
the country next year and what ever you come up with we'll work towards, as
I should be there most of June to September next year. I plan to build a
ramp (or two) this summer as well.... so we should be pretty good for
dockage and if we come up short my neighbour (the realestate gal that sold
us the place) has a long rock crib dock back in the sheltered bay behind our
island that would probably hold 4 to 6 aircraft and we can just row the alum
boat back and forth thru the shallows to our dock to shuttle stuff.

We'll also have to look closer when we have some people #'s as to the
logistics of housing everyone! Might have to expand to some tenting on the
deck, or the one (almost) flat spot on the shore line! :O)

Cheers,
Wayne

Hey, I thought you were taking off to your cottage or gone
already. I have to meet some people at 6:30 PM at my hotel in
Scarborough, and my flight comes in to Pearson at 2:20 PM, so
won't have a lot of time in between as it turns out. That's why I
was wondering if there was anything interesting close to my
destination. I will have a trusty Hertz GPS car again so
shouldn't get lost. Last time it got me right to Ken's place
which I doubt I could have found otherwise even with the best
directions. It used to be that I couldn't fly anywhere without
GPS, now the same goes for driving.

But hopefully will make the big trek next year, Wayne. That one
should be fun. Still have to figure out exactly when and how I
will get away from work then for a reasonable amount of time, but
will do it somehow.

Hi Walter !

None that I can think of ....

Unfortunately, i'm (double !) booked for both
nights, so can't
even sneak out for a beer. :-(
Mon afternoon will be in Toronto, or Wed. is
possible, if you're still
here
- geeeez, give us a bit of warning next
time ! ;-) :-)

Float Ramble 2006 to Lake Temagami ??!!

Bob...Two floater docks are already in place attached to the existing rock
crib docks. No bumpers on them, but we can tie the plane away from them as
they are in an L shape..so the floats won't bang the dock when a boat
passes.

I am taking up another set of docks (picking up in Parry Sound in the am) to
mount my air lift to this week. Hope to have it operational by weeks end if
the weather man is wrong. If my planes not there the lift will be available
for anyone on MAM 1800's (or similar size floats I imagine), or on either
side of it will be a 16' floater dock with a ten Goodyear Eagle speed rated
235-16 "dock bumpers" that "junior" burned off on the T-Bird over the last 5
years!

Once that's all done and a few other "needing" things are taken care of
(like the deck Leah broke thru and almost busted her legs!) I will also be
building a ramp you can stick onto. The first ramp will be on the West end
of the Island... to the left of the docks when looking in from the water.

Hi Guys,

"Smoky" will be itching to travel in '06. Wayne, thanks for inviting the
Ramble '06 to check out the Temagami. Your place there sounds like a little
piece of paradise. If the Ramble includes Oshkosh time, I'll need to be at
the SeaBase where I serve as chairman of "the fun stuff" (activities)

We now have 15 hours on the Moose and are working out a couple of minor
bugs.
For the first big trip Smoky is looking forward to SeaBase '05. Then it will
be onto Greenville in September. I am hoping to head into Canada after
Greenville. I spent last weekend in St-Michel-des-Saints, Quebec at the
first annual CANAM fly-in. What a wonderful weekend. The accommodations
where fantastic, the people super friendly and the information about flying
in Canada very informative. I am now a member of both COPA and APBQ and look
forward to many hours exploring my northern neighbor.

Regards,
Don B.

FWIW, i would suggest coming out here about the 2nd week
in July, then heading down to Oshkosh on the way back. August
here tends to get hot & steamy, with poor vis. - a lot like flying in
a hot milk bottle ! :-( Weather across the prairies is usually
good in early July ....

Unfortunately, I may STILL not have my amphibs ! :-( :-(

Maybe we can plan the Ramble to go west in early July, and
all fly back together .......

Float Ramble 2006 to Lake Temagami ??!!

Well, it was definitely bad last night. We got delayed almost 2
hours last night at Pearson as a t-storm rolled through. Almost
made it out ahead it, but the ramp workers kept getting called
off the ramp with their warning system, so they couldn't get our
plane away from the gate. Then just as we headed out for
take-off, they shut down the runway and we had to sit it out on
the ground. Probably a very good thing, as our plane was rocking
pretty good with the wind and the rain, just sitting there.

Sure hope we don't run into any of those next year on our planned
trip.

You should've been here last week when it was 6-8
degrees warmer.

178 days until my lift ticket is good...

Yeah, Bruce, Al, and whoever else is planning to go,
we should talk this summer about when is best for all
of us. Meanwhile, am looking forward to some more mini
BC/Washington Rambles this summer...

Float Ramble 2006 to Lake Temagami ??!!

by Walter Klatt
Just looking at the 2006 calendar, and here are some dates that
might work for me, and fit with Bob P's suggestion.

Arlington runs from Wed July 5 to Sun July 9 in 2006. So if you
guys from the East can time it to be here for that, we join up
with you there.

Then on Sun head north to BC and Chilliwack/Langley, and spend a
few days local flying around the South Coast. There are a lot of
neat little airports and spots to visit here and on the Island,
for those on wheels only. And with the floatplanes, I can show
you some of my favourite spots, including my place out at
Harrison Lake. And Al P., I'm quite sure that any place we can go
(and get out) with our Rebels, your Moose will be OK, too. Will
pass on Snow Cap lake for now...

Then, would like to head further north to the annual Nimpo Lake
floatplane fly-in on July 15th. It's only a 3 hour flight from
Vancouver, but we could plan to be there a day or two before, to
check out the sights there, and then head out for parts east on
Sun Jul 16. I have to miss Nimpo this year, because my son is
getting married then, but sure would like to do it again next
year. No problem for wheel airplanes either, as they have a grass
strip there, too. And if the wheel guys want friendlier terrain
to fly over, there are safer land routes to get there, too, but
it might take you an extra hour or so.

From Nimpo, we could then take the north route across BC, Alta,
Sask, and Manitoba as we head into Ont. If we take our time, that
would put us at Wayne's place around Sun Jul 22, and give us a
week or so there, before Osh, for those that want to do that.

Anyway, that's my suggestion. How does that sound to you guys? I
still have to figure out how to get away from work for that long,
but that's my problem.

FWIW, i would suggest coming out here about
the 2nd week
in July, then heading down to Oshkosh on the way back. August
here tends to get hot & steamy, with poor vis. - a lot
like flying in
a hot milk bottle ! :-( Weather across
the prairies is usually
good in early July ....

Unfortunately, I may STILL not have my amphibs
! :-( :-(

Maybe we can plan the Ramble to go west in
early July, and
all fly back together .......

I think I have to get a plane finished and cash in an RRSP - it sounds
that good!

I can recommend the airport in Gillies Bay, BC, on Texada Island (Airport

code: CYGB) as an excellent destination, nice small town atmosphere, great

warm water beaches, camping for free at the airport, etc etc.
