Rebel Gascolator Coordinates

Hello Rebelers:

I am building a Rebel and plan to install an O320 E2D (or equal) with a
normally aspirated carb, etc. using Andair gascolator (GAS-375F) with
female threads. Unfortunately, I don't have the engine yet (I am space
challenged in my garage) and need of a dimension at the firewall.

Brief description:
I am going to run the fuel lines from each wing root through the aft
wing attach bulkheads (smallest hole as possible) then down each side
aft of the door openings and down under the corner wraps, under the
floor and forward to a floor mounted selector valve between the seats.
This is an older Ce$$na fuel $elector valve L-B-R-OFF. (Side note: these
low profile valves have a fuel drain in the bottom of the selector
block. I "think" that it will be perfect for a single low point drain
when 662 goes on floats. The drain valve might be a bit hard to reach
while on floats as it will be mounted close to the aircraft centerline
but I will work that out somehow. Might be a minor inconvenience). Then
a single 3/8 tube from the selector valve forward through holes at the
carrythroughs centerline. Per Wayne

Make sure you drill the hole for the gascolator high enough on the fire wall
so that the drain does not stick done below the fuselage. Mine is mounted
just to the left of center on the fire wall as seen form the pilot seat. Put it
where ever it fits your layout.

I use an Ellision Throttle Body carb so I have an electric fuel pump mounted
to the firewall in line from the gascolator to the engine fuel pump. If I
did it again I would mount the electric pump before the gascolator. I have
experienced vapor lock (when using auto fuel) after shut down and can't start it
again until it cools off. Bad situation when you're being blown towards shore
without power. Better have that anchor on board. Having the electric pump
before the gascolator, which is where I believe the fuel is vaporizing, would
help push fuel through the system instead of the pump just sucking air.

Thanks for the information on the gascolator Bruce and Ralph. I know how low
I need to go with the gascolator, but I was wondering how far offset from
the centerline the inlet to the carb is. I know that Bruce can't get the
dimension as he has an Ellison.

I am in a catch 22 here as I need to run my cabin fuel lines up to the
gascolator so I can get the inside floor buttoned up. Once that is
accomplished I can get the gear mounted and on the ground so I can then
position the fuselage to accept the engine. I guess that I will guess the
dimension offset to the left of centerline and get the gascolator mounted. I
suppose that I can point the flexible fuel line from the gascolator to the
carb with AN fittings.

I will be at the airport again this weekend, and hope I catch somebody with
a carbed O320 with the cowl off and take some measurements.

Also, I didn't realize that one could purchase the Andair with "in-and-out"
ports on any side you choose =:-)

Ralph, where did you purchase your gascolator and mount? (I didn't see in
the Spruce, Vans or Wicks catalog the mount for that model).

Thanks again for the good information guys.

Terry,

What 0320 are you using? The carbs are different locations depending on the
model of engine. You need to let MAM know if you use their cowling as the
cowls are molded differntly to fit each model engine.

Planning an O320E2D, 150 HP. I am pretty far away from ordering a cowl
though =:-). Still have PLENTY of stuff to accomplish.

Terry,

I have an 0320E2D as well. I will try and remember to measure it next trip
to the hanger. It will be a while as I leave for Oregon and family reunion
tomorrow.

Okay. Thanks Bruce.

Are you going to make the pilgrimage to Arlington this year?
