Rivet gun

Hi all, just unpacked Rebel 537 and ready to (finally) start cutting my fingers up. Had a question on
rivet guns. It's the one that came with the kit. Do I need to oil the rivet gun as is standard with most
air tools? If so, how much? Any extrapolation on air riveting would be welcome. Thanks.

12 years of steady usage and I've lost count of the rivets but somewhere
over 300,000 and I have never cleaned the pull jaws or added oil to the
inlet. There is an air over oil plunger though that I have topped once in
all that time.

Cheers and happy building!

Wayne

Rivet gun

Hi Alan

Mine get feisty after several thousand rivets if I don't add a drop of
oil. Must be drier around here than up in Wayne's neck of the woods ;)
Anyway if you find that it starts to stick and doesn't fully release the
mandrel- before you take it apart you might try adding a drop or two of
oil. Similarly I add a drop of oil to my air drills occasionally after
probably 500 to 1000 holes. They sure don't need very much and who wants
to breath oil mist.

The only other tips I can think of is to use the nosepiece with the
smallest hole that doesn't jam the mandrel so that part of the rivet
doesn't extrude up and leave a pimple on the rivet. Saves touching up
the rivet head with a file later. And some of us run the puller on just
enough air pressure to snap the mandrel. Guess I started doing that when
working with proseal. I don't think it really matters much but the
rivets seemed to pull nice and tight so I kept doing it with a regulator
set to 30 or 40 psi.
