HI all ... I will pass along the following correspondence I had with Murphy
regarding mounting the stabilizer. I am interested if anyone else has done
this on their aircraft.. JIm LePard JimRebel@aol.com

Hi Murtech .... Regarding Stabilizer Installation ,,,
Chapter 20-7 figure 7A & 7B has the front stab mounting with one AN4-5A
bolt
on each side .... I believe this was for trailering the aircraft ( hinging
the stab's to reduce the width to a road legal width ) I would like to use
two AN3-5A bolts as I will not need to hinge the stab and this would
increase
the safety and strength of the tail (also a backup if the tail strut tube
broke ). Also the nut plates shipped with the kit are F5000-3 they should
be
.. F5000-4 as in fig 7A.

Hi jim

Your proposal of two bolts sounds good.

I will send you the f5000-4s that you need.

My only comment/observation is:
FWIW - mods. like this will likely have a large impact on the resale value
of your Rebel (negatively !!). Many buyers are very cautious, and want an
aircraft that is 'factory standard', so they can get support. Seeing
something
like extra bolts will get them wondering 'what ELSE is
different/added/missing?!!'.
....bobp

ps
Nobody has lost a tail strut, yet ! This is a bit like the earlier
debate
about "beefing up" the landing gear - "if it ain't broke, ..... ", and the
Rebel is plenty strong.
