Tail wheel

Brent,
My Elite is still under construction so no actual flying experience. It
is impossible to get the tailwheel pivot plane parallel to the ground.
MAM was questioned and I was told that if it was a problem to bend the
tailspring. That is a non-answer as that would place the tailwheel to
close to the rudder. I am willing to wait until we actually have flying
experience but this is inherent in the Elite as well. I have not heard
of any problems from Elitists.

Hello Ralph:
I have a Rebel.
I had to take about 17* of bend out of the MAM aluminum tail spring so as to
be vertical. This is a must do. Good luck with your Elite.

My kit came with a fiberglass tail wheel spring, I've seen the pictures for
cutting what looks like an automotive spring on the web site but haven't
yet really studied it as I'm a long way from dealing with the tail
wheel. But, now it sounds as though there is another option.
What is best for rough country service?
Thanks,
John... 369R

Got a large tailwheel for the Moose for sale here....that's the Elite
nosewheel with the machined shaft to adapt as a tailwheel. The sweet thing
about this one is that it has the cam machined and fitted to take a
tailwheel lock.
Thomas is going to use the STC'd 185 tailwheel from Arlington. He has one on
his 185 and in over two thousand hours never a problem.
Call Thomas 403 948 5618.

Elitest,
I pulled my stab and elevator off today for paint and decided to adjust my tail spring. Ralph, did you feel the bottom hole puts the spring too close to the rudder? I put it 1 hole up and still have the angle on the pivot. Hope it works out. I sure am not pulling that tail off again to adjust it after paint.
