Insurance...Alaska rider

Thought I'd let everyone know the results of my insurance search for the
Moose.

Full coverage, liability $1M/$100K, Hull $160K (U.S.), Not-in-Motion:
$3,343.00 or 2.1% of value

Only one company would quote coverage (I talked to 4 different agents
who checked everyone possible): U.S. Specialty

Coverage includes flights anywhere in the U.S. (of course) and anywhere
in Canada

Coverage does not include Alaska.

Cost for a 30-day rider for flights anywhere in Alaska is 25% of the
premium, or $836 in my case. The Alaska rider is "flat fully earned"
which means that once you put the 30-day rider in force, there is no
prorate or refund whatsoever if you decide at the last minute not to fly
in Alaska or only fly in Alaska for 1 day.

I think you need to remind these guys that Alaska is in fact part of the
U.S. I saw an article once that said of people stopped on the street in New
York City, only 32% knew that Alaska was part of the U.S. My mom brought a
friend up here last summer and she called wanting to know if she could
change her U.S. dollars up here or if she needed to do it before she came
up!

Sheesh!

Gee, I always thought Alaska was part of BC, just like Washington... And would love to have Alberta join, too.

You sure Ted...you typed "Not-in-motion"...which is the standard wording
these days for Hull insurance when it is hangared, moured, or tied down and
not running (as soon as it's moving under it's own power = No Hull
insurance)....and the premium sounds way too cheap to be full inflight
coverage.

I doubt if it would make an impression if these guys are already
delusional enough to think that Alaska is more risky than Northern
Canada which lacks oh let's see -weather services, approach aids,
maintanance, decent runways, alternate airports, FSS stations, fuel...

Hmmm, Alaska, you know if we weren't so "Canadian" we might have scooped it up
when it was on the market & you wouldn't have all these problems lol!

One more place on the "to see" list when the Elite is done!
