I don't know Bob...I had good luck with the old thin (1/4") yellow rubbers.
Not in the original setup, but the way I do it with Belleville washers in
between each one. I make a stack by first a washer cupped towards the first
rubber, then a rubber, then a washer cupped the other way (ie these are
retaining the rubber) and then another washer cupped in the opposite
direction to cup the next rubber etc. This way you have the shape of the
Belleville washers keeping the rubbers from squishing out and you also have
the added load force available from the Belleville washers.

On my prebuilts I'm going to give the shock struts a whirl the way they came
with the thicker yellow rubbers (about 1/2"). There are only 6 of these
rubbers, 5 washers and two of the thick alum FL-265? spacer washers in
there. Seem pretty stiff, but I don't have enough old rubbers nor enough
Belleville washers in stock to retrofit to what I know works for sure. Want
to get these things on so going forward with what is there and can always
change them out later.

I've thought about replacing with die springs before..considering that's
right up my alley when on wheels....but stuck with the rubbers to avoid the
rust that would be associated with the springs in there and the springs
would also give a bit more of a hammering to the gear and components, and
I'm not too sure that it would take it.

Wayne
