nutplates/tinnerman/rivnuts
If I was to do my floor over I would go with the aluminum doubler
recessed
cover type. Currently I just have cutouts in the floor and the cover
sits
on top with no doubler. I do have nut plates flush riveted in the floor
and
machine screws hold the cover plates on.
I wouldn't like the tinnerman nuts because they slip over the edge and
would
hold the cover plate up off the floor.

Roll the edge Scott and they sit tight!
Depends if the hole is in a high load structural area or not.... to dictate
what to use.
Gotta get to bed so I can make it thru another 16 hour stint in the hangar
again tomorrow. Will answer Bob's email in more detail if I get a chance
tomorrow night.

Thanks Wayne,
I would appreciate the info about the rivnuts etc. tools (dimpler? installer
etc.) If you have the stuff for sale I would be glad to purchase from
you as you are such a help to me reading all your posts. Even though I am
quite a bit behind most of the other builders on the site I am keeping a log
to make it easier to search when I get to the point in my build. I got the
epoxy primer we talked about (e-bay $25.00)and went and bought the thinner
it is really good stuff. Anyway when you get a chance let me know about the
rivnuts etc.

nutplates/tinnerman/rivnuts
Bob, if you have items that only occasionally need to come apart...like
maybe installing a ventral fin or the water rudder cable guides to fuselage
sides... rivnuts are a good (well easy) way to go. Also areas that are after
thoughts that you can no longer get behind to install a proper anchor. Just
make sure you use the proper ones with the key in them and make the notch to
match in the skins so they don't turn. As for installing them, others have
shown homemade tools here before. Princess auto sells a cheap china junk
tool that works well enough for the odd installation. Make sure you put some
lube on the screws so they don't rust/corrode in place.... which would have
the rivnut spinning when you go to take things apart.
Access holes in high tension load areas definitely need a doubler ring that
should be properly riveted in place with a proper rivet pitch per AC43-13
and be one thickness heavier than the original material. You can then add
anchor nuts or clip nuts to this ring for your inspection hole. Access holes
in less structual areas could use the "clipped" doubler ring with the anchor
nuts riveted to it and split/turned/slipped up inside and then the cover on
the outside.
Keep in mind, in Canada at least, that every hole cut in a skin will have
the inspector looking for a doubler around the hole. This includes the slot
in the skin for the elevator trim rod, and any other access hole you cut.
As for what I have in stock... about 90,000 anchor nuts in various sizes and
configurations including some hard to find 90* ones, one lug and corner lug
anchors. 10's of thousands of clip nuts in 6-32 and 8-32 etc. I have no
flush face rivnuts unfortunately...but do have a huge lot of ones that are
for thick skin and c/sinking that I would need to look at again to see if
normal tools would install them.
I have LOTS of various machine screws (AN500 to AN526), but unfortunately
most are not Stainless and this is the only way to go in my opinion for
access covers and the like on a new airplane.
Hope that helps some Bob, any other questions just fire them to the list and
I'm sure many guys can help you out.
Cheers,
Wayne

installerThanks Wayne,
I would appreciate the info about the rivnuts etc. tools (dimpler?
logetc.) If you have the stuff for sale I would be glad to purchase from
you as you are such a help to me reading all your posts. Even though I am
quite a bit behind most of the other builders on the site I am keeping a
theto make it easier to search when I get to the point in my build. I got the
epoxy primer we talked about (e-bay $25.00)and went and bought the thinner
it is really good stuff. Anyway when you get a chance let me know about
EHLO=smtp.film-tech.netrivnuts etc.

Here are a couple of links to Click Bond Fasteners. Their specs on strength of

fastener. I haven't done a test with them. I have used them in the Rebel for
cover plates and light duty stuff. I will probably use their wire clamps too.
VERY easy to install ! ! $pendy little thing$ though.
Just something else to ponder.
