M-14 Air Start System: New valve
Posted: Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:27 am
I posted last week about the increasingly sluggish performance of my air
start system. I ordered a replacement coil and valve from Kimball
Enterprises. What a HUGE difference! I'm now convinced that the
original valve was bad from when it first came out the box. Even when
new I never saw the prop move "fast." Last week when I posted about the
sluggish performance Ryan Mowat replied that, after cleaning his valve,
he could almost taxi on the water just using air. I thought he was
joking. With the new valve on today I could litterally almost taxi; I
mean that prop was moving like I've never seen it. I'll bet I got 3
complete revolutions and only dropped 50psi in doing so. Just AMAZING.
I'm going to send the old coil and valve back to Kimball's for them to
look at. I've taken the valve apart (friend built a special spanner
tool), cleaned it and it still didn't work for beans.
