Airplane Coin Toss

Hey Bob ! Been hummin and haughin about that. Was giving thought to buying
Howard's from him and throwing the new floats on it.....to save doing the
conversion on mine.....but considering I'm trying to downsize I really
shouldn't get back to two (or three/four- don't ask) personal planes and
then with my luck I'd sell it in the fall and be left in even a worse
dilemma than I am right now. At least I have a new set of amphibs right
now...just can't find the time to get them together and onto my airplane. If
I sold Howard's with the amphibs on it I'd have nothing at all to get to the
lake in!

Guess the easy deciding factor is...now that I have Howard's machine all
rebuilt, back on wheel gear and ready for paint, I can't get anyone to touch
it for a month. Was told late July first and then begged which got me into
his car paint booth (vs the airplane size booth) for a few weeks from
now..but the catch is I cannot install the engine or it won't fit in his
booth...so this is putting me even further behind since I can't do the
engine install while I wait for the painting. !#^^#^#!

Then I thought I'd be nice, since it's already in my hanger, and install a
new windshield, prop and a few minor things on my F-in-Laws CH701 Amphib
before I started my float install. Then I found his elevator was ready to
fall off, gascolator split open from water freezing in it...so I have over a
week and a half of "pro-bono" work to do before I can even hit mine. Hell or
high water I'm heading for "our new lodge" May 13th with the boat and again
May 18th with some floater docks and the air lift for the plane on my 35'
trailer. Hopefully in between or shortly thereafter I will have DJK on the
amphibs and making the trip the easy way!

Cheers,
Wayne

hi wayne hope it all works out for you i`d hate for all of us with planes
to be up there at" our" lodge, and you at home working

bye the way i may not be the first but i put PJB on Georgian Bay today for
the first time Acually there is still ice floating around here and there
this is quite early compared to other years

i changed all my hydraulic fittings to the brass ones with extra heavy duty
tubing (1000psi) so far it seems good although i still have a small leak
at the cylinder connection, which was already brass and wasen`t changed of
course i can now pump to 200 psi and the nose gear stays put when pushing
the plane in reverse!

is your strip dry enough to land and take off with small wheels yet?

NO...do not land here...it's dry enough up the center for the 8 x4's on the
J3 and that's about it. You'd bury the amphib!! (and my dozers not running
to pull it out!).

Midland and Penetang Harbours are still covered with ice, even though the
ice breaker and grain boat smashed their way to Ogilvie's elevator a week
ago.

Visiting "our" lodge won't do you much good if I'm not there...as if I'm not
there there'll be no access to boats to use for fishing either! LOL !
