G'day Guys 'n; Gals !

Sent this off to Bob .... but didn't get a reply as yet (I figure he's
out flying & having FUN ! :o)

Anyone help me out here with some info - Angus maybe .... you out there
?!?

G'day Bob !

Just wondering .... (I was talking to Greg Gordon yesterday - while
doing an inspection on his Elite) ...... Greg is going to fit Fyfe's
wing tips (I think) - the drooped ones anyway - which I was also
planning to fit ....

But, he also plans to fit the McKenzie leading edge cuffs - which I am
"interested " in .... but I don't want to fit anything that SLOWS her
down ( she flies GREAT - but it's no rocket)....

What experience have you had with the cuffs ?

They obviously slow the stall speed - but by how much ?

BUT

What happens to the cruise & top end speeds ??????

Any other adverse effects - if any ?

Thanks Bob !

PS Are there any adverse effects with the drooped tips that you've
heard of ?

Hi Rick
No depreciation in speed with the STOL cuffs.
We really like Dave Fife's Hoerner Tips, easy installation and good
performance. Our Rebel had a trim issue that corrected with the installation
of Daves tips.
bobp will be a good resource person to address performance changes with the
cuffs as he had a good bit of time on their Rebel prior to the installation.
When he returns from S&F maybe he will say. He and I had great plans to do a
detailed performance comparison (pre&post) on his Rebel but it was only a
good intention (so you know what paved road we are going down).
We used to work two Pawnees together, one had Madras drooped tips, both
planes hauled the same load and used the same take-off distance, on a Cat or
AirTractor the Hoerner design makes a significant improvement in low speed
handling. Just MHO...........Angus

Just to clarify (maybe),
I don't think you guys are talking about the same thing. Fifes's tips are
not what you would call drooped. I don't think so anyway. I used to fly
Pawnees with drooped tips also. They hang down so much that it was difficult
to land in much crosswind. A bad design for a low wing taildragger I
thought. Fife's Hoerner tips have a top surface that matches the wings
airfoil, while the bottom curves up to meet it at the tip.
I don't have any experience with them, but planning on using them.
