Elevator Trim direction/ flap position indicator

Todays silly question is which way are guys wiring the trim rocker
switch if installed on the instrument panel? Push the top to go nose
down or push the top to go nose up? If you think about a trim wheel or a
stick mounted trim switch then pushing the top for nose down makes
sense. Or you can just think of it as an up/down switch....

In case you think I'm totally nutty, the manufacturer supplies labelling
for either way:

Also at the bottom of that page is a $30. position sensor that looks
like it could be used to feed one of their $77. position indicators if
someone with electric flaps wanted a panel mounted indicator.

Didn't some one say once that no questions are silly?

I suspect the majority will be push the top for nose down trim, bottom for
nose up.

Scott is correct. There are no silly questions when it comes to airplanes.
In my opinion the only silly one is one that is not asked. We installed our
trim switch in the same manner--- push the top of the switch and the nose
goes down. Push it a long time and the nose goes WAY down.

Interesting....I didn't get either of the previous messages on this subject.

I argued this one for a long time with my MD-RA inspector with the feeling
that you rolled a C182 wheel rearward for nose up so the bottom of the
switch should be nose up...but he said no way top of switch is "UP" so it
should be nose up. I didn't like it at first, but in reality it really makes
sense. This also correlates to the indicator which rises to the top for nose
up and bottom for nose down. With the rocker switch and indicator mounted
side by side if you want more nose up it only makes sense to push the upward
side of the switch to make the indicator go more nose up...and the airplane
as well. Pushing the bottom of the switch while the indicator and nose go up
would be confusing and I have found it so when getting in other Rebels/701's
etc that have been installed this way.

I also found that the best place for the rocker switch to be is not where I
have it, but where I put it in FXWI that Bob P. has now. Right between the
throttle and mixture so you can tap it with a finger without letting go of
either the stick or the throttle!

I installed my trim switch so when I hit the top of the rocker switch the
nose goes up and when I hit the bottom it goes down, same as the gear indicator
switch...switch up/wheels up and switch down/wheels down. That made the most
sense to me.

Of course, it is personal choice, but it doesn't make any sense to me.
Forget the indicator, it needs to be intuitive which would be to treat it
like a mini control stick (imagine it on a center panel) forward would be
down back would be up. If it was on top of your stick it would be real
goofy (to me anyway) to go forward for nose up.

On FOKM the trim switch currently causes the nose to go up when the top
is pushed. I find it annoying and opposite to instinct. ie: imagine
flying with only trim and then set the switch the natural way - to be
similar to the stick. I will change FOKM's this summer.

Yeah, I still remember heming and hawing about that one, back
when I was building. But in the end I thought it was more
intuitive for me to push the up side of the switch to make the
nose go up, and push down for nose down. Now if the switch was
mounted horizontal somewhere, there would be no question... I use
the trim so seldom in my plane, that it really doesn't matter. If
you do push it the wrong way, you find out pretty fast, anyway.
