Rebel floor

Hi guys,
Still working on my cabin floor. I was wondering if I'm suppose to install
the floor between bulkheads D and E. That is directly behind the elevator
pulleys. My tailcone floor piece ends at the pulleys (bulkhead D) but the
instructions say to install inner corner wraps between D and E but say
nothing about the small trapezoidal floor piece required behind the pulleys.
Since I'll probably mount my ELT and battery back there I guess I'll go
ahead and install the floor back to E. (I'll STILL have 2 extra wraps)
Is everyone doing it this way? Any reason not to?

I stopped my floor at D and that left me enough room to instal my ELT under
the elevator cables.

Joel,

I couldn't find anything in either my builder's manual, nor on the Murphy CD
that indicates the inner floor, and/or the inner corner wraps are to be
installed aft of bulkhead D. All the longitudinal and cross floor channels
are installed between bulkheads 'A' and 'D'in my manuals (#687).

I think the reason not to is weight but I did it anyway. Having a floor
behind the elevator pulley is of little advantage but I'd want to make
sure the battery mount was crash resistant and the ends of the channels
for that should probably be tied with something even if not installing
the floor in that area. If you do put it in, you can possibly save
yourself some effort by not drilling all the rivet holes until after the
elevator pulleys, rudder cable pulleys (if used), battery brackets, and
ELT brackets are made. At least some of those brackets will be easier
and stronger if tied into the channels, or easier to install if you
don't have to backdrill and file to fit predrilled rivet holes in the floor.

Interesting how some of the same questions come up 10 years later. I still remember asking someone at MAM about that, too, and basically it was in the builder's choice category. I did finish mine right to the back, but just for looks, no other real reason. I do have my survival gear stuffed back in there to help with w&b.

Ken,
My thinking exactly. I'm going with a fairly heavy Subaru EJ-22 without
cutting the firewall back, same as you if I remember correctly and that's
why I want to put the batteries (two odyssey pc-680s) back there. I already
have the Scott 3200 and steel trailer spring. I'm planning to drill the
channels but not rivet until I make the brackets so they will pickup the
same holes through the channels. I'll probably also use 3/16 rivets for the
battery mounts as I have visions of them busting loose in a crash and
smacking me in the back of the head. That would be a "BAD thing" (TM)!
