Hi all,

Quick question about the ribs (EL-303 all 29 for tail sub-kit) the ribs I have
seem to have a pretty good bend to them. I have uploaded a picture to the
files Moose misc. I put the rib vertical and lay a straight edge next to it in
the center of the rib there is about a 1/4" gap? Is the normal???? It is that
way on all of them. The bend can be straightened while laying flat with a
little downward pressure (springs right back when released). following the
directions for drawing the line down the center of the flange it seems like it
will be a pain to keep it straight while drilling and riveting. There is no
visible deformaties (bends or crinkles).

Bob,

I'm building the Rebel, not a Moose, but from your description it sounds like
you need to straighten the ribs using fluting pliers. If your not familiar
with the procedure, try this link for desc & photos:

Or try a Google search for "fluting" ribs and see what comes up. Just make
sure you know where the rivet holes will be and flute between them. Also go
slow and easy.

Hi Bob, I know a lot of people use fluting pliers for this, but I did all
mine with a shrinker... that way I don't have the waves in the flange and
don't have to worry about where the rivets line up. I just did a couple of
soft taps on the shrinker handle every inch or so the entire length and they
came out nice and straight with the flanges still smooth.

both fluting pliers and the shrinker. If you do a search for shrinker -
stretcher you will get a bunch of hits. Definitely cheaper to go with the
pliers but there have been a few times I wish I had a shrinker and stretcher
for custom parts.

Glad you found one Bob... I just bought the deluxe tool kit from Murphy when
I bought my kit... came with both fluting pliers, and the
shrinker/stretcher.
