Questions Moose Oil and Air
Posted: Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:13 am
I concur, with Scott. One oil temp sensor at inlet - I drilled and
tapped the end of the big nut on the opposite end of the inlet of the
oil pump screen on then engine and put outlet oil temp in the oil
filter.
I did not install an oil/air separator on compressor but use the dump
valve - I have mounted the air tank vertically so it is easy to clear
out - so far every time I dump the tank out no water.

Dick,
1. No we didn't put in a water separator. I was under the impression
from
the Kimball's that with a dump valve in the system most of the goop and
moisture went overboard.
Assuming since you are asking you have a bunch of moisture in the tank
and
lines??
2. I went with inlet and outlet oil temp probes just because the
Russians
published limits for in and out. Inlet is in the tank. Outlet is on
top of
the oil filter, which is just after coming out of the engine. (Our
system
goes tank - engine - filter - cooler - tank).
Of course this is all still in the garage so no operational experience
yet.

Subject: Questions
To All You Moose/M14 Drivers:
During our condition inspection, we are doing some tweaking on the
airplane and engine. We have a couple of questions on which we need
your comments.
1. Do you use a water separator between the air compressor and
starting system?
2. Where are you sensing oil temperature(s)? Do you sense inlet
oil temperature to the engine, outlet oil temperature from the engine,
oil tank temperature?
Thanks,
Dick and Dave Shotwell
