rudder & elevator spar tubes

Post by Bob Patterson » Fri Feb 17, 2012 5:26 pm

Hi Mike !!

Welcome to the list !! This really is about the best resource around
!!

Mike has the "James Bond" Rebel - No. 007 !!

Sorry I can't help with this question, without looking at the parts & the
manual - we were at that stage on #002 in Feb. 1992, and my memory ain't
what it used to be !! :-)

While edge distance should be as the manual, I recall that some places
all you could do was split the available space - from the end of the tube
to the edge of the plug .... I believe the edge distance on the rib was
not so critical because of the considerable thickness of the tube plus
the plug walls. (The importance of edge distance being that the rivet
will not tear out through the edge of the material ...)

Anyone else help with a more accurate description ???

I have question on the rudder & elevator construction

chapter #5

section 5.2 #6 elevator tube is 47 1/8" long and hole to be drilled of rib
mounting is 47 1/16" with a #30 drill. this leaves only 1/16" to end of
tube. very close is this correct. the rudder had 1/4" clear.

are holes around the end plugs on rudder & elevator tubes supposed to be at
different locations from the end of the spar tube. example holes at 1/2"
from end and then 11/32" on rudder and on elevator 1/2" from end and the
11/32" for rib. If these are drilled through as stated in manual where are
the remaining 4 holes drilled from the end of the spar tube to secure the
rudder & elevator end caps.
