McCauley prop spacer/adapter

Well I finally received my McCauley prop today (Wow! It's heavy ...I
want a lighter one already...) and tried matching it with the
spacer/adapter that I bought from another source before machining it
down but was surprised to see that the spacer dowels do not line up with
the dowel holes of the prop. My spacer dowels are 4 3/4" apart which is
same as the bolt holes on both the prop and spacer but the prop needs
dowel pins spaced at only 4 3/8". Would anyone know where I could get
the proper spacer? I may have to just get a machine shop to make new
dowel holes in my spacer. I've even heard of some who don't bother
using the dowels. I wonder how secure that would be?

I think you will find that 4 3/4" is the spacing for a SAE ll or
Lycoming prop whereas 4 3/8 is the spacing for a SAE l or Continental
prop. In addition bolt diameters and dowel diameters and lengths may
vary on different engines.
I think Sabre manufacturing is often recommended for spacers - the name
may have changed now but think they are still in business. I have seen
spacers that adapt one standard to the other but I'd investigate
exchanging the prop for the correct one.

Hi Ken, thanks for the info. Both my prop and spacer have the SAE 2 bolt
configuration of 4 3/4" between bolts. This prop came off a C172 with a 160
Lycoming. My problem is that the 2 dowel pins sticking out of the spacer
does not line up with the dowel pin holes of the prop. I'm checking around
now for the right spacer which I'm told really shouldn't be to hard to find
since this prop and spacer combo was installed on alot of C172s.
