G'day

I have an ACS gascolator, model 10561 that came with my Rebel kit.

It was mounted using the threaded hole in top of the housing which is
between the two outlets.

However I now think that this in not the correct way to mount the gascolator
and I would appreciate some advice as to how others have mounted theirs. It
is all rather confusing.

Does the factory make some sort of mounting bracket?

Regards

Ian Donaldson

The factory supply a folded stainless steel bracket (also available from
ACS). I prefer (for the Elite at least, don't see why the Rebel should be
different) the ACS "gascolator mounting bracket" (P/N -5-00907). This is a
steel flange that rivets to the firewall and has a male pipe thread to mate
with the gascolator. The only trouble is that it has a flare fitting that
sticks through the firewall and you want to make a 90* turn at this point,
and you'd like to screw a female elbow on at this point. I just screwed the
elbow on to the flare fitting then brazed the two together, as the threads
are not a perfect match.

This flange does not interfere with opening of the gascolator the way the
stainless braket supplied in the MAM F/W forward kit does.

The factory has diagrams of how to mount the gascolator that came with my
0320 firewall package. I think your flying a 912 powered Rebel, right? MAM can
fax a picture if you try calling them.

Ian..that top hole is really for the primer line. Not sure how you attached
here..I'd guess at a retap and a 5/16 bolt?? Probably fine the way you have
it...do you have a picture you can email me direct for more scrutiny?

Cheers,
Wayne

G'day to all

Thanks for your responses regarding the mounting of my gascolator. If I had
known that a bracket was available from ACS it would have made things easier
for me! But that is the way it goes!

I have had another look at the bracket and after listening to what you all
have offered, I made a few changes, but I still used the hole in the top of
the gascolator to mount it.

Wayne has offered to look at a photo of my work and I have sent one off to
him for an opinion. Here's hoping that he thinks it is OK.

I will keep you posted.

Regards and thanks again

Hi Ian
I believe there is a drawing in my manual for making a gascolator bracket. I
could scan and send it to you if you like. Otherwise AC Spruce sells a
stainless steel one for $9.75 US. Gascolator can be mounted with inlet and
outlet sideways or front to back by inverting the bracket.
It was this bracket I was drilling when I drilled my index finger, so I
remember it clearly.

G'day Dale

Thanks for your interest. I have managed to make a bracket that seems OK,
but if it is no great trouble I would like a scan of what the factory
suggest.

I did not get any directions on how to mount it and just went about it my
way!

Thanks and regards

Ian Donaldson.
