Just testing my Warp Drive 3 blade wide tips prop
on a 150 HP Lycoming O320, and got 2300 RPM static
run-up. Is this too slow and should I take out
some pitch? My Rebel is almost ready for its first
flight, and I'm trying to get everything just
right.

How much pitch do you have? At the tips please. You will need about 13
or so. Degrees that is.

I didn't have my protractor with me when I did my run-up, but I think it was
around 11 1/2 degrees. I am going to check it again tonight or tomorrow.
Also, it is a 3 blade 72" diameter wide tip prop. I am sure it is not 13"
pitch, though. My O320 is 150 HP, not 160 either. Peak HP is at 2700 RPM.

Hi,

My 150HP 0-320 Rebel with about a 74-58 Sensenich metal prop static is
2300rpm.

This is what I would call a cruise prop. It works fine. About 105Kt cruise
at 2400rpm.

I would prefer a climb prop so I am going to repitch to aim for a static of
about 2500-2550rpm

Cheers

Alister

Thanks Alister. I would also be interested in what Warp Drive users are
getting
for a static RPM. I just confirmed today that my pitch is set at 11 1/2
degrees. Some time ago, I heard or read somewhere that the static RPM for
Warp
Drive props should be higher than for metal props. I seem to recall
something
about there being more flex and that was the reason.

In my inquiries Walter it appears the 160 users are getting 2350 at 13
degrees. Your setting sounds about right for the 150 HP version. FWIW
I get 2380 with 14.5 with my Subaru. All are 3 blade. You might check
with Warp Drive about problems. Seems some of the blades are cracking
with use on the o320. They will know the problems and the answers.

Warp Drive Static RPM?

Thanks for the info, Dave. Not sure what HP you have on your Subaru, but
sounds like
it beats the O320. I spoke to Warp Drive today and he said people were using
anywhere
from 9 to 12 degrees pitch with the 150 HP depending if they were on floats
or wanted
cruise power. The suggested static RPM was 2300 - 2400, so mine at 11 1/2
and 2300
should be a good place to start. He also mentioned that there were no
problems with
the 150 HP users, just the high compression guys, so hopefully I don't have
to worry
about that.
