Same problem on mine and on the flying factory Elite that was
at Arlington this year.

It appears that the factory template for stamping and cutting out
the Elite skin could use a little tweaking.

Don't try to correct the 1/4" gap by slipping up the skin to be
flush with the spar. You'll screw up things down the line and
have to redo a bunch of work. Hmmm, don't ask how I found
that out....

The 1/4" gap will be covered and secured by the elevator
tip skin so aesthetically it isn't a problem and structurally it
seems okay.

Hi My name is Keith Oliver , I just posted a comment to the support site ,
but thought I might do it here also.

I received my Elite Kit about a month ago and all has been fine so far until
today. I am working on the elevator and have started to put the skin
on. After I clecoed the skin on I noticed the following.

The skin on the left side (pilot's) is 1/4 inch shorter than the right spar
to trailing edge. This leaves 1/4 inch of spar exposed. Does anyone else
have the same ????

I had pretty much decided on such a course of action.
Just how long are they (MR) going to let it go ????
Are there any more such issues I should be aware of, or looking for ?

I haven't chatted with the factory about the 1/4" skin issue,
so it's only my conjecture that they have a template problem,
but seems like it.

I crawled all over, under, inside and out of the new factory
Elite (C-GBZB) at Arlington taking pictures, close-ups and
inspecting nooks and crannies. I now have a stack of photos
to refer to.

Areas that I am taking additional steps are to ensure that there
is easy access/inspection for all bolts especially those used to
retain control surface brackets. Many access covers are simply
riveted on the tail assembly of the factory Elite as indicated in
the manual. I'm adding backing plates and anchor nuts. It is
a bit extra weight and is adding a bunch more build time.

Since I'm planning on going floats and into the salt water, I
want to ensure easy access to be able to replace corroded
hardware that will (not may) occur over time.

I'll look through my notes for any other gotchas that I've bumped
into on the tail. I'm just about to start on wing control surfaces
after a summer of slacking off....

Eric
