Thanks Wayne.
I'm not sure if it's even a concern yet. My wife and I have been looking at
different acreages. Depending on the RM some say whatever and some say no way.
It would seem that I should stop asking. (they can't say no that way)
From what you say it dosn't sound like they have much say in the matter.
Just to expand on your note about the US airstrips. I have talked to pilots in
a number of other countries and feel that for all the complaining guys do
about Canada we do have it better than most other countries when it comes to
flying.

-> Brad...I've been through the fight and have all the documents if you get in
-> trouble!! Do not ever back down and apply for planning variances or building
-> permits.... or you will put a notch in the precedence that has been set that
-> aerodromes are fully under Federal jurisdiction.
->
-> Basically...clean as much as you need to get an airplane on the property
-> before letting anyone know what you are up to. The guy I had on a D5 just
-> told snoopers that we wanted some nice landscaping in our front yard. Half
-> way through his clearing process I landed my C182 on it and took pictures
-> with a time date on them. The second that my airplane touched the ground it
-> converted my property to fall under federal jurisdiction...as any surface
-> that an airplane has landed on or taken off from is an aerodrome. Since
-> aerodromes are under federal jurisdiction "the provinces and townships have
-> no capacity to access planning power over said property". Once your
-> aerodrome is in you can then proceed to build yourself a nice hanger without
-> a building permit and if you chose to do so have no need to build to code
-> either. You will of course still be subject to property value increase taxes
-> for the building.....but not for a grass runway as it's no different than a
-> lawn. Paved is another story!
->
-> As for registering...there is no need in Canada to make it legally an
-> aerodrome. It is also almost impossible these days to get it into the CFS as
-> it is now under Nav Canada's scrutiny and they seem to "form letter" every
-> private strip as a "hazard to aviation safety" and the reason they chose
-> this wording is it's the only way they can refuse publishing in the CFS.
->
-> Sorry to our US friends...but I understand it's not so easy south of our
-> border. Every county has control over where/what you can do with an
-> aerodrome apparently down there.
->
-> Cheers,
-> Wayne
