Note from Larry Cox, forwarded to the list.

Hi,

To Murphy Builders Net:

From: Larry Cox - Elite - 576E

In the process of looking for a set of Anphib 2000's for our
Elite, I stumbled on to a good deal on a set of new( still in the
box ) factory built Aerocomp 1800's Anphibs with mechanical
actuation ( something like the old Mooney landing gear system ).
There is no electrics or hydraulics involved.

The floats were purchased for a Montana Coyote, so it has that
installation kit valued at $595 that would not be usable on the
Rebel, but at the asking price, would still be a good value.

The owner was killed before these floats were installed, and the
widow is trying to sell them. They were purchased for $10,010.00
( she faxed me a copy of the receipt ) and the lady is asking
$7,500.00, but she is very eager to sell them and she indicated
that she would be willing to negotiate on the price.

I certainly wish that they would fit our Elite.

If any or you should run across a deal on some Anphib 2000's
please let me know about it.

Hi, Bruce. Yes, I do remember meeting you down at
Arlington last year. Mine was the creme colour one with
the red and blue trim. However, I think you are
referring to Steve Sloan who is based out of Arlington.
His was the polished aluminum one. I noticed that MAM
still has the 2002 Arlington planes on their website.
Here's the link, and when you check each plane it
should refresh your memory.
http://www.murphyair.com/Arlington2002.htm

Great to hear you're picking up your floats. I still
say you should get them on for this summer. You still
have plenty of time. It doesn't take that much to mount
them, and you'll get lots of help from this list.

BTW, if you came up tomorrow, I could take you for a
ride in mine (weather permitting, of course). That
might convince you. I'm just at Langley which is on
your way to Chilliwack.

Walter

Sorry for the blank, Hands faster than the eye.

Hi Walter,

I'm going to pick up my new Amphibs at MAM
on Monday. I'm pretty excited
about it even though I will not be
installing them until this winter. I don't
want to miss all the fun this summer with
shop and down time.

I ask Brian about the newer suspension pucks
and he said all come with new
now. I met a Rebel on Amphips based in
Arlington, at Arlington, last summer
and can't remember who it was. Speak up
please. I now you are not from
Arlington Walter so it wasn't you.

Bruce, Don't you be taking either of my two sets that are to be crated in
the next week or so for shipment. Mine are the "better" two sets siting
there and yours are the dinged up ones just so you know which pair belong to
you!!! (JUST KIDDING!!!!! ) Seriously if you see some "concerns" on my two
sets while you're there please advise, so I can address any issues with
Colleen before they get crated!

Thanks,
Wayne

Walter,

That was pretty clever with the hull coverage and renewal dates. My coverage
renewal is August. I'll have to try that and let you know how it works out.

Thanks again for the spectacular Canadian lake jumping float ride. I can't
say enough about what it means to see and experience the real thing when your
buying and building. I'll be sure and return the favor for another Rebel
builder.

That reminds me. Jim Lepard, if your out there and I know you scan he list,
give me a call or email me and let's take you for a ride my Rebel. You could
probably use some inspiration right now.

Cheers

hello Wayne and other float builders:

clint and i are haveing trouble with the directions and the pictures
provided on the c.d. they conflict often and lead to consternation.
the question for today is where do the pumpouts go and what size hole
is drilled?

the pics show the forward two pumpouts through the inspection covers.
the directions give other dimensions for the instalation of a 9/16th
hole. the black stoppers won't go through a hole that size. the other
pumpouts do not show on the pics and are not mentioned in the
directions. do folks just skip them and unscrew the deck plates or do
we just put them in some logical place?

help from anyone would be appreciated.

wayne, if you are willing to share your phone number, then we could
possibly make progress on the weekends when mam is closed. not that
they are much help when open.

thanks in advance,

clint and andy

Hi
Can't help much but the floats that I've seen with the pumpouts do
indeed have them in every compartment. Something is nagging at me about
the location of the one in the rear compartment though. Just can't
remember what it is... Keep the pumpout forward so it doesn't submerge
when heavy but the tube bottom goes....?? Must be something in the archives.

Not sure what cups you have, but if they are the "miniature" ones that came
on my two sets of prebuilts then use them for funnels and buy 18 real
Lake-n-Air cups and plugs that actually fit a Bexon Bilge Pump. You can do
the pump outs later if they are holding you up. Not a need to do them in
advance although it can be easier to do so. Drop in on my webpage at
www.irishfield.on.ca and go into services and then float construction. You
will see the pump outs installed before I bottom skinned Howard's and it
shows the 2nd compartment back in the picture.

Ignore the installation of the stupid 9/16 holes in the front two
compartments and the installation of the supplied brass fittings referenced
in the manual.

The pictures on disk are not of floats built per the manual and are what a
private builder (Julius) local to Chilliwack has incorporated instead to his
floats, both good and bad ideas (like we all do!!!). Ignore the pics on the
disc and just follow the paper manual. Don't forget my "SB" to install
reinforce gussets on all three partial bulkheads in the step area or they
will crack on you and also use a piece of the scrap keel strip about 6" long
and sikaflex (or what ever sealer you have chosen) it over top of the
riveted keel at the very tail of the floats for a wear strip (for
over-rotated landings)

Get rid of the plastic deck rings and spin off lids as well ! You can drill
the pattern if you want but don't bother bolting them down. Then get someone
to shear you 16 - 8" x 8" squares out of .040 alum and someone else that
know how to hold them to their lathe chuck/face plate using a ball bearing
tailstock and have them cut you 6 5/8" circles. They work and look a LOT
better and don't break when snoopy people step up on your floats!

Look through the pics in the archives at dcsol in the float section and
there are numerous pictures that show these covers and the pump outs.

My phone numbers are no secret and posted in the contact section of our
website. Although I really prefer to answer tech questions at my leisure
here where it's my "free" time instead of my "for profit" shop time. I am
going to bed shortly, getting up at 6am and will be at Midland airport till
late evening Sunday, so if any there are any questions please use this
medium to correspond.

Cheers,
Wayne

The 9/16" hole is for the pump-out fittings in the two front compartments
that use a W-? fuel flange with a barb fitting to the pump-out hose. If you
bought the optional pump-out fittings you need to cut a hole to match the
inside of the cup. I was too cheap and after only 10hrs. I'm planning the
changes I'm going to make. If you mount the pump-outs somewhere convinient
on the top deck it's a lot easier to pump when you're standing on the float
than if you mount them on the side. I'm not sure if there's room do this
with the front 2 compartments though.

That's where using the good Lake-n-Air plugs come in, as they don't allow
any water past them (except maybe a small drip through the cord hole).
Anyhow if you can get the backs of the floats that far under water then you
are overweight and doing a lot of sailing backwards at the same time!!

As for hoses, of course for all compartments behind the step the hose goes
in the front of the compartments keel vee and those forward of the step go
in the rear of the vee.

hi to all responders,

thanks for the helpful hints. i had not looked at the float archive
pics in a while and they reall helped as did all of your written
suggestions. clint has a direction now and is happier as it has stopped
raining and he can work on his broken truck without lying in a big
puddle. we got three inches of rain in two days. his truck needed the
amphibs.

soon

andy
