Just a note to say that Rebel 190R is now in the air. The construction
period spanned 6 1/2 years but we worked on the project primarily in the
winters. The aircraft is powered by an 0 320 E2D. The aircraft has the
firewall cut back 3", incorporates the spring gear and the "speed cowl",
the latter modified to include a bottom cowl flap. Temps and pessures
have been relatively cool despite a new engine ( CHT@ 350/ Oil Temp @
190). Have a full suite of instruments (including a self designed
interior) all of which adds up to an empty weight of 1006 lbs.
Incorporated a "header tank" (two gals) suspended from bulkheads just
behind the "crank" in the fuselage. Also located battery/strobe power
pack/ ELT in the same location. C of G for 190R turned out to be 12.4".
All this makes 190R very docile and easy to fly. Had a slight left wing
down tendency which was easily fixed with two small tabs on each
flaperon.
Sent pictures to MAM about four weeks ago but haven't seen anything on
their website; suspect Oshkosh may have interfered. Their support has
been excellent throughout. Elaine from "shipping" need a very special
bouquet.
