I see JK has answered the oil question. If you need more information I can
post or email a full diagram for you.
The oil filter is an interesting question. If you want a non airplane unit
Doug Beechel SR 176 had a great example of one from a farm equipment - low
cost and works great. Doug lives in Arkansas, have his number at work if
you need it. Other options include any high flow unit with -12
input/output, there is two companies that I have seen. I used a high flow
unit from the northwest - Brain fart on the name - but If you email me
sometime at

On the air start. Really good question. Let me tell you about my
experiment. First my answer - NO issue in effeciency, and Yes, you should
mount it in behind the baggage door in my opinion. The exeriment I did was
to take a 2000 psi industrial air tank with a regulator on it that is
adjustable. Then I hooked 30 feet of -4 hose (braided covered aeroquip
stuff - do not use infront of fire wall - but good under floor) to the tank
and the start solenoid. The drill is to try turning the engine over and see
what min pressure still make the radial spin fast - the answer - about 250
psi is as low as you want to go. No issue with the 30 feet of hose. Works
just as well as 3 feet. The reason you want to mount it in the back is for
more capacity - the tank gets so hot up by the engine that when you cool off
you loose about 100 psi. In the back you always have max pressure. The
other reason is Weight and Ballance. You want to fly this plane with at
least 12" aft of leading edge to fly nice - and 15" is even better - you are
going to be heavy with the radial - so put the tank in the back, on floats
it is really nice at 19".
The other item you want to check before flying is the solenoid. There are
two sizes that JK has sent out. One was too small and the other works
great. The deal is that you want to double check and make sure the little
guy is on the dump solenoid and the large one is on the air start. I have
never discussed this with JK but I know that I was shipped two different
units and I swapped them once with much bitching and many terrible starts
before it was figured out. If you have the right solenoid in the system you
can almost taxi with the air start system.
