Hi,

I have noticed two interesting little mods in this year's Murphy
demonstrators:

brake cylinder mounting:
MAM followed Dave Bangle's advice to mount the lower part of the brake
cylinders to the floor (with two angle brackets per cylinder). This should
improve wear and handling characteristics.

Brake lines:
MAM changed from the plastic lines to real airplane hoses, I guess because
of higher pressure limits. Did anybody of the flying Rebels experience
problems with the plastic lines?

Another thing I've seen in the vendor section are reasonable priced
(65-75$) pneumatic tailwheels (so far only Scott had very expensive 8"
wheels) from Andair, which could be exchanged with the standard solid, hard
riding Rebel tailwheel. The only thing which bothers me is the reduced max
load 200-300 #, instead of 460 # of the solid wheel. Would you think this
is still enough? How much weight goes to the tail wheel at gross? Darryl
Murphy was not able to tell.

Plastic brake lines: have used them for 9 years on one Rebel, and
6 years on the other. No problems ! They are also used on the amphib
floats for gear retraction - again: No problems !!

The Andair pneumatic wheels sound interesting - will they directly
replace the solid wheel, with no mods. ?? Why the reduced load limit ??
Is it the structure of the wheel, or just the tire load limits ??

I would be surprised if you ever get 300 LB. on the tail, even at gross.
I believe usual loads are more in the 100 LB. range ... vertically -
side loads are another issue, and one that needs attention !

Actually, the credit goes to Keith Kinden. I didn't follow his advise
until I looped mine. Then it seemed more important to listen. :)
