Hey Bob, what happened at Oshkosh? I was looking for you every morning
to go and fly the Rebel but didn't see you. Couldn't have been the need
to get up at 4 AM to make it up to the flight line by 7 from where you
were camped could it. :) How many visitors did you get just out of
curiosity? Hope the flight home was uneventful. When did you leave?

Sorry I missed you !! I really would have liked to fly, but the long trek,
with NO busses or trams (!!), plus the HEAT, did me in ....

I don't think I've EVER been as hot as Friday - I heard it was 115, with
90 percent humidity !! Got a sunburn on both legs, so bad that right leg &
foot started swelling - went to first aid center. Scary !

Had about a dozen visitors, 'way down in Row 120 !! This was one year
it didn't pay to get there early !

We left Tuesday, about quarter to 2, just ahead of the rain ! Dodged
between 2 cells & headed up to Clintonville, then on to Manistique,MI for
a GREAT roast beef dinner !!! :-) Spent the night there, then on to
Gore Bay, on Manitoulin Island, and home to Brampton. What was really
surprising, and SO unusual, was that we had a TAILWIND, almost all the way
!!!
Really felt good about the Rotax 912 - haulling all that camping gear,
and still making 116 mph (groundspeed ;-) ), on 3 gallons/hour !!!!

Hope you had a good trip home - looked like there was a big low sitting
out west ....

I heard many people grumbling about shortage of showers & transportation
at the south end, and high prices everywhere. Most people around us left
after 2 days !

We will be flying the Rebel Ramble next year, out to the
Wet Coast, and back to OSH, starting July 8th. I'm thinking about delaying
arrival at OSH until maybe Wed., or Thursday, ..... We hope there will
be lots of people who join us on this fly 'n camp trip - all kinds of
aircraft are welcome !

In future years, I'm inclined to DRIVE down, arriving Thursday, and
leaving Sunday ! The car will give us freedom to shop 'off the grounds',
and leave when we want to. After 14 years of arriving several days early,
and staying for the whole show, it just doesn't seem the same. OSH is
turning into Disneyland - high prices, and less 'content' ! They are pushing
us homebuilders & classics who want to camp with our aircraft further &
further away from the action !! I wouldn't mind SO much, if the camping
hadn't increased to $15/day, PLUS a flight line pass, for a total of
$238 (about $400 in Canadian pesos ;-( ) - BUT - there were only 4 shower
stalls for about 1,200 of us, and not even a sink to shave in (!), and
busses only one day !

On the grounds, large burgers were $6.00, and Bratwurst $4.50, and
water was $2 for a small bottle.
Across the road in front of WalMart, a church group was selling a Brat & a
coke
for $1.75 !!!

Maybe I'm just getting grumpy in my old age ! :-)
