I HAVE 5 FLIGHTS ON MY REBEL WITH AN O-290 THAT WAS PICKLED FOR 18 YEARS.
IT
HAS GOOD POWER AND COMPRESSION, BUT IT HAS A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF OIL COMING
OUT THE BREATHER TUBE - MORE THAN 2 QUARTS IN A ONE-HALF HOUR FLIGHT.
HELP!!!

Bill; the latest issue, July '99, of "Light Plane Maintenance" has a four
page article on Breather Tubes. You need to read that article before you do
anything drastic, such as a top overhaul!

I hope you're not filling it right up !!! Lycomings will blow the
first quart out almost immediately !!! If it holds 8 quarts, never put
in more than 7 - it'll be gone before you go once around the patch !!!

A compression test will tell you if the rings are worn, or if it's
valves ....
