Hi Terry Thomason, Ref. Subaru engines. bobp is correct regarding =
vertical fin placement. I halved my offset. I assume you have followed =
this website and know I have a junkyard Subaru in my Rebel (#83, what =
are you doing still working on #46?), zero offset is probably fine.
Dave Bangle and Crossflow are indeed great sources and have good =
reputations. You are however looking at a large amount of money, but =
everything is done for you. As in one of my previous comments on this =
website, I have to disagree with bobp since so many of us have fallen on =
our face, you do not have to anticipate the same problems as we have had =
and therefore should not sweat a large period of experimentation like we =
had to. If I had to do it all over again, I would go with =
Eggenfellner's complete engine set-up, as he is the least expensive or =
if I could not afford even him, buy his components and do the major mods =
to a carefully selected Legacy engine, preferably a 2.5 liter one and =
make sure I got the computer and wiring harness with it if for no other =
reasons than to have it for exchange, they are available in good shape. =
I am not the last word by any means, but these engines are so well put =
together, all this internal mod.work is great, but not really necessary. =
Buy yourself a Rotax 912 cowl from Murphy and the work required to use =
it on your converted Subaru Legacy is not very difficult and gets you a =
very easy to remove cowl set-up. You can use a Warp-Drive 3-blade prop.
You will have the nicest, starting and running engine for 1/4 to 1/3th =

I don't have a Murphy, I've just been monitoring the list because I was
interested in the Rebel before getting into my current plane.

But since this has come up. I have through some wheeling and dealing
ended up a complete Eggenfellner 2.5 setup. I'd like to get rid of it
and if anyone out there would like to make me an offer I can't refuse???
it would be a good way to get your plane running.

(I already have a 2.2 installed and running great, don't need the 2.5)

This includes redrive, 2.5 Soob, harness, computer, radiators, oil
cooler, and engine mount.

Not necessarily Geert. We prefer the customer who wants to build his
own engine. You will still need a Reduction Drive, a Cooling System, an
Exhaust System, a Cowl System, and a Mounting System even with the stock
engine and accessories. That is our deal. Our stuff will all work with

I have a customer who is selling a 2.5 Eggenfeller complete engine,
redrive, and systems for pretty cheap. He is making more power with our
2.2 so doesn't need it. Contact me off list if interested. It has been
flight tested in a Storch. Of course you will still have to mount,

Your friend is one of the lucky few !!! We have had several builders
here who have sent deposits to NSI, never to receive either an engine,
OR a refund !! According to an article in one aviation magazine, NSI
are virtually out of business !

The NSI CAP variable pitch prop has failed in flight. One builder
near Ottawa did considerable damage to his aircraft (Lancair ??) in an
outlanding, after the NSI prop shed a blade !!! The examination showed
that the hub was poorly engineered & constructed, and the blades had been
damaged for some time !

The only other comment I have heard is that the NSI EA-81 engines do
not produce anything LIKE the claimed horsepower - but then, I've heard that
about several other conversions, as well ! It does seem like a big stretch,
from 70 (or so) HP, to 115 HP - that would make the convertor ???? % smarter
than the Japanese engineers ???!!!!

I just uploaded two pix. Look for "ej22soob" and "ej22soob1" in recent
files as one went to Rebel engines and the other to the wrong
directory. I haven't seen a Soob FWF package yet that I wanted to own
so I did this one myself. It's been very interesting and very slow
progress. Ej22 with Marcotte psru and a Warp 3 blade. Yes I'm planning
amphibs after a year or so of flying.
