e-Mail Virus Confirmation Receipt (smtaf9.tmp) - QUESTION !
Posted: Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:23 am
by Mike Davis
Yes, unfortunately they now go out to everybody... I've talked to Angus
already about it, and his system is checking out fine. The message is
generated by software on my server that scans every incoming message... it
was considered a feature to have it notify the intended recipient that a
message with a virus had been intercepted... but we'll have to see if it can
be blocked from the mailing lists.

Actually, if a message gets pegged during the virus scan it is executed on
the spot! Never even gets imported into the system. Hopefully we can
figure out what's up quickly... his messages were going through just fine a
few days ago.

e-Mail Virus Confirmation Receipt (smtaf9.tmp) - QUESTION !

When I get home tonight I will see what I can do about filtering the
announcement messages... as long as I can stop those, then Angus can
continue posting... for now I disabled his account so the messages never get
accepted. I can usually take care of these things remotely from work...
just been to busy today. But I'll get on it tonight when I get home.

e-Mail Virus Confirmation Receipt (smtaf9.tmp) - QUESTION !

by Mike Davis
Well Angus should be back as soon as he confirms his subscription... It's
amazing the lengths folks go to when they're trying to spam or spread
viruses. These messages were indeed being sent by a telus.net server, but
the connecting domain was les-abbey.com... which it turns out doesn't even
exist. I've sent the information off to telus.net that one of their users
was spoofing to send out viruses... hopefully they'll drop him. Oh, and I
have blocked his messages based on his bogus domain. Now if I can figure
out how to stop the virus confirmation messages from going out to the entire
list...
