Ignition Switch

I have an ACS switch with Off L R Both and Start on it.
Yesterday, when I did my shutdown procedure, briefly shutting it
Off, I noticed that my engine would run on. I tried switching it
a few times, but it continued to run like it was on one mag.

Do these switches ever become defective, or is it a ground/mag
wire problem somewhere? I just did a cursory check last night,
but couldn't find any problem with the wiring. I will look at it
more closely today.

Walter

Walter:

Looks like and sounds like a ground/mag wire problem. The "P" lead coming
from the mag. Check the wiring from the mag to the switch. It may have been
broken.
This is why we do the check at shut down to make sure that the mags are not
ALIVE and can fire the engine if someone pushes on the prop. Bad after
affects! ! !

Hi Walter

I would check "P" lead first. It sounds like a broken ground. Does the engine
run or just keep firing like a hot cylinder?

I found the problem. It was a broken P lead wire, where it
attaches to the condenser/filter on the mag. It wasn't obvious,
though. I didn't find it until I yanked on the wire and it then
pulled out of its soldered connector. Yup, some ammo for those of
you against soldered connectors. Anyways, it's all fixed now, and
I am ready again for some more flying. Just a few days left of my
vacation before I'm back to the salt mines.
