Moose alternator overheating

To follow up on my recent posts regarding a total electrical system
failure, I talked at length to the folks at Skytronics (vendor for the
Jasco line of alternators & regulators). To wit:

- They seem to feel alternator is failing due to heat
- Skytronics "concern" is that 2" line is not receiving enough air
after start/during taxi
- Also that 2" line passes by cylinders which yields add'l heat
(where else would one get air w/o a total cowling modification?)
- I uploaded a picture to S/M Electrical Systems showing my alternator
installation
- Regulator is installed in the cabin on the firewall, so it can't be
overheating

* What alternator & regulator (brand/part #) are other folks using?

I'm sending both alternator & regulator into Skytronics for
eval/rebuild.

Turns out this will be 3rd time this alt/reg has been in for
eval/rebuild in less than 100 hours total engine use! Prev 2 times
problem was rotor overheating/alt wouldn't hold 20 amp load.
Understandably, I'm not excited about installing this alt/reg only to
have it fail yet again in x hours.

Thoughts, suggestions, alternatives?

Thank you,

Ted Waltman

and shaft extention that fit on the alternator in the bag there was a flat
rubber spacer that is the same diameter as the shaft any ideas?
