Seems like you should keep the marine one, now that you're on floats!

Hi Bob How many user waypoints can you program into the 176? A freind of
mine went to the trouble of making a CD of all the airports in Ontario and
Quebec. If you have the space I could try and get a copy burned for you.
The information is about 5 years old and you'd still have to program the
water aerodromes yourself.

You should be able to program personal waypoints into the unit. Thats what
the airport info gets stored as. I'm using a garmin street pilot and it's a
great machine but it only allows 99 personal waypoints to be stored so I
was unable to download the complete CD but could only use part of it. You
can get blank memory chips but the built in memory should be more than
enough. Check your manual yo see how many waypoints you can have

Clay,

I did a lot of analysis to make my GPS decision, and ended up with the
600C. I wanted one that would mount right in front of me where the DG and
AH (which I don't have) would go and not obscure the other instruments.
Therefore I needed a 600C size, vertical display unit. I have no trouble
seeing the display in sunlight - must be a setting. I like the set-up and
it does the job I want. The only thing that pissed me off was that I had
to buy the Canadian topo maps in addition to the price of the unit. I was
told by Aircraft Spruce that I could exchange the US maps for the Canadian
maps. No so. It seems that Canada sells the data to GPS manufacturers and
the US gives it away. Another classic example of our government working on
our behalf.

The AvMap looks great but a little too expensive for me. I still might be

able to exchange my Lowrance 600C for the 2000C.
Hank, it sounds like your happy with yours ...?
and congrats on your first flight!

I agree as long as you don't want to run it on internal AA batteries.
Even NiMH rechargeables are only good for a few dozen minutes. The black
and white version is much easier on batteries.

Also check with Aircraft Spruce Canada (not the website) as mine came
with USA and also Canada Maps software disks for no extra charge. That
has never been advertised anywhere that I've noticed but the Canadian
store volunteered the info when I enquired about the unit.

Hey Bob How was the meeting on sunday. Centralia was closed for snow
clearing and I couldn't get out. :-( Now that our airport has gone private
they have 1 truck mounted plow and 1 snowblower and the parking lots get
cleared before the runways. I wanted to here the GPS discussion I'm
probably going to replace mine in the spring and wondered what everyone
likes now. From my research I think the lowrance 2000c would give me the
best value for the features that I want.
