Hi All

I wasn't happy with the "land" available on the forward hinge flange for the
door mounting on my Elite, so I've had some special ones made up.

As a minimum order I received 5 of these, and assuming I'll only screw up
one of them on fitting :-) I have 2 spare if anyone's interested.

They are 12.5 inches long, made from 1.2mm 304BA Stainless, with one flange
.5 inch for the door side, and the other 1" for the vertical fuselage
upright (FUS 4).

I too was not happy with either the width of the hinge, nor its strength. I
got a piece of aliminum hinge with closed pivot holes, rather than the bent
over style. It is available with a 5/8" flange, which gives adequate edge
distance for the rivet holes. It's quite a bit more expensive, but does a
nice job. My instructions said to use stainless hinge, but MAM said the
only stainless hinge on the airplane was for the trim tab.

BTW, you really have to do something about stiffening the forward floor.
You could use the factory provided corner wraps for the nose gear version
(FUS 452, I believe). That should be acceptable to your Brit inspectors.
Beyond that, I suggest either external stiffeners or my double skinned floor
(picture in archives). You could always install the external stiffeners
after you get the final inspection!

Thanks for the reply. I've already ordered some FUS 452's and they should be
leaving Chilliwack shortly. There is no other way I can beef it up without a
load of hassle from the authorities over here.
We also get an annual inspection so no matter how good an idea it may be,
it's best left as is.
