Hi Don,
The rivets that sheared were the ones that attach the instrument panel to
the door posts. I did go up one size to 5/32" and interleaved with 1/8"
rivets. Note the reason they sheared was the v-brace had broken and was
still doing water operations in rough water. I think the panel would have
been just fine if the v-brace had been there. The real issue is strengthen
the upper fittings on the v-brace. I welded on a thicker tab and welded a
gusset on the side of the tab.
Water rudders should have springs in the cables to the air rudder and tight
enough to keep tension in the cable. The spring will allow the air rudder to
operate if the water rudder becomes jammed.

Hi Al,

I hope I am remembering this right. Did you indicate that you had some
panel
rivets shear with a water landing?

If so, which rivets?

Did you replace with larger rivets?

What was your fix?

I am also installing my water rudder cables. I am trying to determine how
tight they need to be (or loose they need to be) I would appreciate what
your experience in this area has been. Al, others

Getting closer every day,
Don B
