Further to my last on this subject, having now installed the control
stops on the elevator, I see there is no way to shorten the elevator
horn, as the elevator stop would interfere with the cable. So, short of
installing an intermediate bellcrank, I guess I'm stuck with shortening
the column. By the way, there seems to be no possibility of getting the
specified 25* down elevator, Sean tells me 15* is enough. At 25*, the
stick would be 'way forward under the panel.
BTW, you once expressed concern that my modified forward floor would
interfere with the engine mount bolts. Having completed the engine
mounts, the answer is yes and no. If you bolt the two parts of the
mounting bracket together before riveting it in place, no problem. But
it will not be possible to remove the AN3-6A bolts without removing the
brackets from the airplane. Hopefully, I will have no need to do that.

Rebel reponses if I go through the BBS. I am rigging the controls on my
Elite, and as I have noted before, the control column bumps in to the
panel when down elevator is applied. There appear to be two solutions:
1) cut about 2 1/2" off the column
2) shorten the elevator horn
Either way, you make the elvator control "higher geared". i.e. less
stick movement per degree of elevator movement. Sean White has chosen
option #1. I've flown one of his airplanes, and the stick is
noticeably, though not uncomfortably short. Also, if you ever had to
push the stick 'way forward under the panel, that would be a stretch.
I'm inclined to favor option #2. I still have to work out which would
be the more highly geard, though from my recollection of aircraft
control texts, it's more stick force per 'g' than stick movement that is
significant. As an aerobatic instructor, having greater elevator
sensitivity than your average Cessna doen't worry me unduly.
Any thoughts?
BTW, have ordered the Vans baffles, carb air box, spinner and throttle
bracket today. All are reportedly superior to those from MAM. My
engine is ready for shipping from Aerosport Power. Do you have any
recommendations on exhaust systems? The carb and cabin air heat
exchangers on the MAM system look flimsy and ineffective, though perhaps
OK in SC.

Hello Alan,
You are a little ahead of me in the control / elevator area. Thanks for
eliminating some false starts. The 25 degree up elevator is a must for me
as I have heard the O-360 Elites with metal prop and narrowed elevator are
quite marginal in flare with light fuel and pilot only. We will fly first
before considering elevator narrowing.
I cannot imagine ever needing 25 degrees down elevator even for spin
recovery so will take what I can get with 25 up.
