Sloshing Compound Identification

Wayne,

I've seen the red stuff too but don't know who makes it. Kreem is another
brand but it's white as well. I used Kreem in my Kitfox and had to remove the
wings after two years and clean it out.

I had been soaking pieces of aluminum that was covered in Randolph in a jar
of gas. These were pieces that were left over from the original Rebel kit
purchaser who used it to seal his leaks. I patched the tanks from the outside and
left the Randolph in the tank (I knew better) hoping it would stay as it had
not pealed off the pieces of aluminum I had been soaking in the jar after 18
months.

Well, the Randolph has since completely separated (three years later) from
the aluminum in the gas soaking jar and I am now waiting for the day it peels
off in a sheet from the wing tank and covers my finger screen. I keep a close
eye on the stuff but it's only a matter of time.

Tell the guy to do himself a favor and fix the tank the right way now and be
done with it. Sloshing the tank with a few gallons of MEK will clean it out.
It takes about two or three guys to flip the wing over several times before
emptying it and repeating the process until it runs out clear.

Airplane is a Baking Deuce, so might just be a fuselage tank or similar...I
don't know for sure.

When you pour the MEK in to get rid of the sloshing compound, does it not
destroy the Proseal filets as well??

The Kitfox had fiberglass tanks and the MEK wasn't in long enough to destroy
the glass but the Rebel and the Proseal would might be a problem. The tank
sealers dissolve quickly with the MEK but it might not be in long enough to
dissolve the proseal, completely...maybe
