dual brakes

We are building an Elite with the dual brakes. While it is certainly
possible to build the brake pedals / cross tubes / linkages I would not
think it worth my time and error potential. On the other hand, the
integral reservoir master cylinders (Matco?) from Aircraft Spruce as non
certified at about US$78 each eliminate the extra plumbing and remote
reservoir of the MAM units. Be sure to get the newer curved arms to
connect the brake pedals to the bottom pivot area replacing the old
straight ones. Also, relocate the bottom of the master cylinders to the
cabin floor as MAM does with their optional kit. If you use the
integral master cylinders you will have to make your own angles for the
master cylinder bottom mounts as the master cylinders are about 3/4"
longer than the MAM units.

Also, when drilling the cabin floor to mount the rudder pedals be sure
you allow enough distance from the firewall. MAM instructions as to
distance are sparse to say the least. I also suggest making the lower
motor mount doublers larger so there will be plenty of room to mount the
rudder pedal delrin bearings to the floor.

Regards,
Ralph Baker

PS - I hope to see many of you at Sun&Fun on Thursday at 5:00 PM at the
MAM display.

Are dual brakes necassary or not worth the extra wieght and work to
install??? I am finishing my moose and don't like the way they work when
coupled together. Work very nicely when pilot side only. Could you guys give
me opions on the pros and cons to going either way... Thanks Dale SR-033
