Long Tank Rivets

My Elite inventory included 150 RR6406 1/8" x 3/8" tank rivets. I can't
figure out where these are supposed to go. MAM is no help. Any ideas?

Long Tank Rivets

If it's like the Super Rebel, you'll need them to
rivet the tank skin to the main spar.

It's for the thickness of the leading edge + tank skin
+ main spar flange.

I'll be out in my "shed" later today and I'll look
to see if I've got some
of those as well. The manual often just says "rivet
together" without
quoting a part No. (I suppose you've found the
ammendment about the floor
rivets around station 2 for early manual versions if
that applies to you
(see below). I've just done a quick search through
the fuselage and wing
PDF's and there is no mention of them there.

The manuals for these aircraft, but particularly the
Elite have not made
clear that the junction between the FUS-5
carrythroughs and the inner and outer floor skins
and spring gear doublers
MUST be riveted with 3/16 rivets of
the appropriate grip length. The rivets to use are
RV-1619. These have a
grip length of 7/16

Well, on the Elite, the spar is 0.062, the tank skin is 0.033, and the LE
skin is 0.025, for a total of 0.120. That shouldn't need a 3/8" rivet. But
that certainly seems to be the thickest area requiring tank rivets.

Hi Alan

Just checked my ship lists for the fuselage and tail bits and there is no
mention of these being here so far...so I guess they must be for wings (or
maybe floats if you have those).

Nigel:

They're for the wing for sure. They use "tank rivets", which have sealed
inner ends, for the fuel tanks. I guess you still have that joyous episode
to look forward to.

Hi Al

Yep....hopefully the wing kit and all the fuselage fittings for the 1800
amphibs will leave Chilliwack in a few weeks......end of May and it should
be here, so I'll see if I get those rivets in my kit as well.
