Tapered Corner Wraps on Elite/Rebel ?

Hi All

Sorry to raise this topic again, but as I'm about to start drilling in this
area I want to be sure of a couple of facts.

My Elite is a tail dragger supplied with 6 FUS10's for the rear top and
bottom, and forward top locations. 2 FUS70's are supplied for the forward
bottom.

After having followed a thread on this several months ago, I plan on
ordering 4 of the heavier FUS452's from the nose wheel a/c for the forward
top and bottom locations, and use the FUS70's for the rear top locations.

My questions are then....is this a reasonable plan, and does anyone have a
suggested part (FUS70 or FUS452) that would be better to use in the rear
bottom location than the FUS10 supplied. (I'll hopefully be on 1800 amphibs
in a couple of years)

The extra strengthening option from the CT to the firewall discussed in
previous threads is NOT an option for me in the UK, without generating mega
expense in stress analysis and testing.

Any thoughts/ideas etc greatfully received

Hi Nigel
With suggestions from the list and a bit of my own, I used 452's on all four
corners on the bottom and made new conecting corners with .032. I used 70's
on the top front and rear. I am building for floats and added evey
suggested mod for this reason.

Tapered Corner Wraps on Elite/Rebel ?

Hi Nigel !

You're on the right track ! FWIW, <I> would use the FUS-70's on
the bottom at the back, as well as the top - a little extra there won't hurt,
especially with the Elite on amphibs. It'll help smooth the transition from
.063 at the front, to .020 in back ....

From your comment, I assume the Elite has already received approval
from your Civil Aviation Authority (can't recall the name ... BCAS ??) ?
Does this also preclude you from reducing the size of the elevator horns,
as discussed here a while ago ??

Tapered Corner Wraps on Elite/Rebel ?

Thanks All for your comments.

I'll be ordering the thicker corner wraps in the next week or so. It seems
to make sense to stop a problem from perhaps happening in the future.

The Elite is still not approved in the UK by the PFA, so any changes not
available ex MAM are considered a mod, at

Hi Nigel !

Interesting ! I would almost bet they'll find <something> to change -
they even added some limitations to the Rebel. I understand they insisted
on changing the size of the tail on some Zeniths - suspect they will want
to do something like that on the Elite too ...

Just seems like they have to do <something> to make everyone aware
that they're 'checking' !! Good luck !
