Door doublers

I did mine as per the manual using epoxy and rivets. Won't win
any show awards with it, but very functional.

How bout a building question:

The manual calls for doublers around the perimeter of
the door skins. It also mentions using epoxy to bond
these doublers. For those who've been there; what
product have you guys used to bond these doublers?
(proseal, T-88, other?) Or, has everyone used
adhesive, or does everyone actually build the
doublers. Seems that the skins (without doublers)
would be pretty susceptible to getting dented.

The original manual (Rebel) had you use strips of .032 material to make the
(UGLY) striking edge of the door. On mine I just left the door skin oversize
and it's held up okay. On Howard's we left the door skin oversize and then
put the strips inside between the skin and the frame. Rivets hold at the
frame and the doubler/skin bonded with Proseal. Works like a dream!

Hi Bill, Yes the doors need the doublers. We built ours as the manual calls. we used hysol for the adhesive. worked very well. stays a bit flexible and easy to work with. very strong and bonds great to aluminum. Only thing i was not pleased with the door construction is the way a nice flat door did not match up with a NOT flat fuselage. twist, uneven surface. Did the best we could. Randy Bowers ( the guy who trucked your moose) and partner don boardman
