"Pro" constuction, design changes without mfg perm

Wow, are there ever two sides to this issue! The original "amateur built" designation was intended to allow builders to pursue their efforts for 'recreation and education'. This concept has worked since the 1950's, virtually un-touched. Without a doubt, the designs have evolved into more complex and demanding creations, rivaling and surpasing certified craft, in many ways. The fact that 'pro builders' have come into the fray, may actually allow for better built aircraft to enter the arena, in some cases, but to say that such builders are "required", in my mind, is a complete abomination of the concept that has made this movement possible. The 'hired gun builders' have, to an extent, changed the direction of experimental aircraft from the backyard builders, who pour heart and soul in to their creations, to a rich man's game of paying for a 'factory built experimental aircraft'. Ask Wayne if the guys with the Lancair IV-P turbines are complying with any letter of the law!

nners of the past few years. Personally, I'm pleased as punch if a gazillionaire has someone, more qualified than he, build his plane. This supports the kit manufacturers, as well as the ancillary equipment suppliers. All of which is good for the rest of us. My concern with the idea is that the governing body (FAA, Canadian or whatever authority) steps in and institutes restrictions that would adversely affect us all. If there's 'evolution' on our end, am I out of line in figuring that the regulations, governing us all, will also 'evolve'? On the other hand, if the Gov't doesn't change the rules, I suspect that the trial lawyers will. Either way, I can't see where 'pro builders' are going to help the game, for the masses.

them become more demanding. "Pros" are required to bring their skills to
