Brian,
As the wings have the same cord, they do not share the same control
surfaces.(Ailerons) The ailerons extend past the main wing on the 2500
and Elite, however on the Rebel they end at the wing. The 2500 and
Elite also have counter weights attached to the end of the aileron.
As I stated, I do believe that a Hoerner tip can be made to fit this
plane but it will take a year of so to complete a mold and do the
testing.

airplane today. Took about 4 hours. I spent 40 hours in just prep on
each tip on the old ones to make them fit. Will be painted on Tuesday
and on the plane for good on Thursday. I'll let everyone know how they
fly. They sure are beautiful and a great improvement over the old
ones. Really nice. Dave did them in Kevlar for me and they weigh in at
about 6# apiece. My old ones are well over 10 each with all the bondo I
needed to make them work.

While surveying the installation of the wingtips, a few questions arose, that the manual doesn't seem to address;
Do we make a cutout in the tip, ABOVE the spade, as below it? Looks like a big hole on top, to me. Maybe the range of motion is such that the spade cannot go that high, and stays within the confines of the tip. I dunno.
If not, shouldn't this unsupported fiberglass, above the spade, be reinforced? Seems pretty floppy, to me. If so, with what?
If the wingtips are riveted on, it seems that a nice inspection panel is in order. I'm gonna mount strobe power supplies out there. Sure would be nice to be able to access them. Comments?

Wing tips
Hi Bill, we just got started on our fast build. I am assuming since you are on the wing tip you have the wings closed up?? I finished up the ailerons yesterday and one flap today (except for the missing center hinge doublers and MAM appears to be closed today). Should finish the other tomorrow and then on to the wings.
Any surprises on closing up the wings? If not I'll be on the wing tip by the end of the week. I was thinking of maybe going with nut plates for the wing tips but haven't looked to see if that will work out yet or not. Sorry I am only asking and not answering any questions...

Wing tips
Hello, Scott
Only real surprise, so far, is how quickly this stuff goes together. Pretty much like the previous parts; drill out, disassemble, clean up, inspect, reassemble, rivet... I checked the torque of all of the strut fitting bolts, and wouldn't you know it, every one was dead on right. These guys have done a great job, with the quick build. That manual, however... But that horse has been beaten, before, and will get more in the future.
When you get to the wing tips, let me know what you think. R.J. sent me a photo of the factory tip. It seems that the area OVER the spade is not cut out. It also seems that there is a doubler of some sort, over the spade. With about 12" of unsupported fiberglass, on the upper surface of an airfoil, there better be a doubler. There doesn't seem to be very much excess length, for the overlap at the wing joint. When you cut off the molding flange, you're just about at the length you need. The nutplates would have to snuggle right into the rib flanges. You might have some trouble getting the nutplates to work. Sounds like a great idea, though, if you can pull it off.

Only real surprise, so far, is how quickly this stuff goes together. Pretty much like the previous parts; drill out, disassemble, clean up, inspect, reassemble, rivet... I checked the torque of all of the strut fitting bolts, and wouldn't you know it, every one was dead on right. These guys have done a great job, with the quick build. That manual, however... But that horse has been beaten, before, and will get more in the future.
When you get to the wing tips, let me know what you think. R.J. sent me a photo of the factory tip. It seems that the area OVER the spade is not cut out. It also seems that there is a doubler of some sort, over the spade. With about 12" of unsupported fiberglass, on the upper surface of an airfoil, there better be a doubler. Hi Bill, we just got started on our fast build. I am assuming since you are on the wing tip you have the wings closed up?? I finished up the ailerons yesterday and one flap today (except for the missing center hinge doublers and MAM appears to be closed today). Should finish the other tomorrow and then on to the wings.
Any surprises on closing up the wings? If not I'll be on the wing tip by the end of the week. I was thinking of maybe going with nut plates for the wing tips but haven't looked to see if that will work out yet or not. Sorry I am only asking and not answering any questions...

Thanks for the note Bill. I'll let you know when I get to the tips. I have the next 4 days straight to work on it so hope to get the wings done. I agree about the great job with the fast build. Only thing that slows you down is flipping through the old manual to make sure all the steps are done.

The spade opening is only on the bottom.
I made large access holes that the strobe power supplies fit through also put connectors on the wires so it comes apart easily.
I riveted the wing tips on but made sure that I could access the wing for inspection and corrosion proofing or what ever through the same access holes.

While surveying the installation of the wingtips, a few questions arose, that the manual doesn't seem to address;
Do we make a cutout in the tip, ABOVE the spade, as below it? Looks like a big hole on top, to me. Maybe the range of motion is such that the spade cannot go that high, and stays within the confines of the tip. I dunno.
If not, shouldn't this unsupported fiberglass, above the spade, be reinforced? Seems pretty floppy, to me. If so, with what?
If the wingtips are riveted on, it seems that a nice inspection panel is in order. I'm gonna mount strobe power supplies out there. Sure would be nice to be able to access them. Comments?
