anti-spam measures

I've just incorporated a new mail server update that addresses the
proliferation of spam I'm sure we've all been seeing. I personally probably
get in excess of 300 junk e-mails a day now. I'm bringing this up to the list
because there is a possibility that it may affect your ability to post to the
builders list. The update uses a form of caller ID to verify all e-mails
received come from valid addresses, but it also checks against open relays.
An open relay is a server that will allow anyone to post messages to it
whether they have a valid address or not. What this means to you is that if
your ISP's mail server is an open relay, then my system is going to reject
your messages.

If anyone finds that their messages are being rejected... i.e. your messages
to the list aren't in the archives, and no one is responding to your
questions... please send me an e-mail at mikedavis@acsalaska.net, or log onto
the archive site and click on the "click here to send me an e-mail" button on
the main page. Make sure you include your e-mail address in your message so I
know exactly what I'm looking for.

Hopefully this update will have a minimum impact to our builders list... in
the 2 hours since I made the change I've received only 5 e-mails, 1 of which
was junk... compared to the 30-40 I normally would have gotten in that time
frame. I will do what ever I can to keep the list mail flowing smoothly, but
I sure don't want to go back to the way it was.

Thanks, Mike
