For the Moose builders. What is the best or most affordable auto pilot to
be installed in the moose? ? ? ?
Any problems with your installation. Went back into the list and could not
find any info except some pictures but not any model info.

Thanks

Steve,
I have a Navaid, after a year of messing around I don't recommend it. The
tracking will hold a course only if your damn near on it. Once its out of
calibration it's very difficult to get to work (may be my problem) again.
The way I attached the servo was with the capstan option, attached to the
aileron cable.
Trutrack has come up with a push tube attached to the aileron push tube in
the wing. I have looked at the setup and it looks good.
EZ Pilot is another AP, it uses the Navaid servo, but has a digital control
head. The guys are Trio Avionics, they went into business of building the
EZ Pilot because of the limitations of the Navaid, check the features it
looks good.
If I were to do it again, and had the price of a Trutrack I would go with
it. I would go with the EZ Pilot, and mount the servo in the wing using the
same mounting that Trutrack uses, if short on cash.

Hi Steve,

We have installed the Navaid. I don't think the Digitrak was up and running
when we elected to go with the Navaid. We have not flown it yet, we are
looking to early summer. I think Ryan Mowat is flying a Navaid. He had
pictures of the servo installation on his web site.

It would be useful to hear from someone flying the Navaid.

Later,
Don B.

We recently installed TrueTrack system in a Yak-52 and were extremely
pleased with the result. The servos were like the certified servos and the
system installed very easily. It has altitude hold as well as the capability
of dialing in a desired rate of climb. It is not the lowest cost, but much
better than the Navaid devices that we have installed previously.

Steve,

In addition to the NAVAID device I had considered a company that had an
altitude hold system. I can't seem to find the literature I had but it
used a barometric sensor that allowed altitude hold via the trim motor.
From recent posts on the power of the trim system it would probably
work good on the Moose. The system was also quite cheap at about 300
USD. I think I saw the system first in Kitplanes in an RV instalation.
Hopefully someone will know of and guide you or you could check the RV
builders site out.

I've committed to <bluemountainavionics.com> EFIS/One with an EFIS lite
as back up. This system also allows the optional AP servos to couple to
the Flight Directors providing all of the conventional verticle and
lateral modes including a coupled ILS. Previously discussed here were
methods to allow verticle RA measurements so in the end I may have a
fail operational Cat II capable Moose.

before I skin this thing?

Hi
Rick I know that the TruTrak can be installed after the airframe is built. I
have installed one in a customer Moose and it takes about 16 hours to mount
the servos. Trutrak also makes a new controler that will drive the Navaids
servos for those that are having problems. We are a dealer for Trutrak in
Canada for those that are interested.
