SR3500 Leading Edge Root Attach Bracket

Post by brittreed » Sat Feb 18, 2012 12:08 am

I am looking at the 2.5"*2.5" angle that I am supposed to make the W720 -Root
attach bracket. Anyone notice that there are not enough dimensions in the
drawing to actually make the part? Maybe it is a MAM ploy to not divulge
trade secrets or a marketing trick to get everyone to recommend fast builds to
upcoming builders.

Also it would be nice if in the update manual (or in the dcsol archives)if MAM
listed the parts that are not on the first page of each chapter with the 3500
kit so I dont wander around looking for them only to realize that they have
been superceeded. Point in case - there are no W512 (root attach brackets) or
(2) AN6-7A bolts - I can only guess that the (2) AN6-10A are in there to
replace.

Meanwhile I guess I will try to redraw the part to scale or hold it up next to
a LE rib.

Is anyone else building slow build wings or am I talking to hear myself babble?

SR3500 Leading Edge Root Attach Bracket

Post by R J Thomas » Sat Feb 18, 2012 12:08 am

Easy there Mr. Britt.

I built mine slowly - very slowly.

I just checked my paperwork and it references an "old" W-512 and a "new"
W-512 made of the 2.5" X 2.5" angle. I made the new part as big as would
fit against the rib and took the bolt pattern from the old W-512 and then
added new holes where they looked right by referencing the un-dimensioned
drawings.

I am currently working on the fuselage between the forward door posts and
the firewall. I'm more than happy to commiserate with you - anytime.

Happy New Year.

Cheers, rj

SR3500 Leading Edge Root Attach Bracket

RJ - Thanks for the reply - I've redone the drawing (should have autocadded it
to share) on graph paper - You had the luxury of the old part to grab the
bolthole pattern - It is coming along ok but it was an unexpected time sink.
All said - I am still loving the whole process (just needed a little wine).
The gratification of being as far into the fuselage as you are must be almost
overwhelming! Anyway thanks again - Britt
