I wonder if someone could tell me the thickness of the 6061 used for the
trail edge of the flaps/ailerons. When I measure with the venire I read
0.040" . The reason for asking is that I made a mistake and have three
pairs of holes to close together. I had order three new main aileron
ribs (AIL-23, @ $21 per rib) and asked about the trailing edge. The
person filling the order said it would cost a good deal more then the
price of the rib. I can then get the material and try bending it.

$21 for an aileron rib!! I'd be trying to make replacement ribs at that
price. Just make a hardwood block the right shape and radius another piece
on top with a couple bolts to hold it all together then hammer out a new
piece with a rubber mallet.
Has Murphy really jacked up their parts prices or is this just out of
line. I always thought the replacement parts I bought were very reasonably
priced. Sometimes less than for what I could buy the raw material for.

Some of there parts seem out of line. Float hard point reinforcment pieces=
$25 US a pair, and you need two pair. Heck for $25 US you can get a 4' X 4'
piece of 6061 of the same thickness from ACS.

Of course you aren't paying for the aluminum so much as the cutting,
multiple bends, stocking, and convenience/time saving. IIRC MAM is
pretty good at charging reasonable shipping without adding on a large
packing charge like many firms do on small orders. Sometimes after
spending half a day making jigs for a part and the wastage from doing it
three times to get it right, the purchased part starts to look like a
good deal. Then there is the cost of the tools that I've acquired to
make those parts...

I suspect MAM is not really making a lot of money on parts although I
haven't purchase any recently. At least they aren't priced by Cessna...
However I've been able to find raw 6061T6 locally a lot cheaper than
Spruce and have been surprised how fast full sheets of the stuff seem to
disapear.
