I am laying out the parts for the elevator and on one drawing it shows an
extra rib but I can't find mention of it in the book. What has everyone been
doing????? Thanks

moose elevator extra rib

Sure that extra rib is not the 3500 upgrade from the 2500?? Does it go on an
angle from the spar towards trailing edge/corners of the "V" cutout between
the two sides (ie the rudder clearance area). If so it's the extra rib for
the 3500 upgrade (not this rib and the V rib are also heavier guage for the
3500 (than the original 2500 ribs). While you are on that "V".. make sure
that you have newer skins that have been opened up in this area and if not
you need to trim the skin in the "V" back to the prepunched holes (clean the
holes off) and make a new set of holes with the matching edge distance to
the old ones. If you don't do this your elevator will be jammed against the
rear fin post before you can even install the elevator to stab hinge bolts.

Guess if you're not sure it's hard to tell what you have! Maybe if I get a
minute today I will measure the OLD distance for you at the bottom of the V
and at the open end of hte V. Then you will know if you have the old width
or the newer opening that I advised MAM for the need of, the day the
elevator jammed tight on mine while at the same time they were hacking the
spar doublers out of a quick build in BC to make theirs fit. No way I'm
going the hacking route!

Lot easier now, than after the fact. That is where I have left mine....
jammed for a year + now and carried on with other things around here
instead. Not looking forward to opening it for the second time and trying to
redo all the reinforcing in the cable horn area.

moose elevator extra rib

The rib is not located in the V. It was one about 3 inches from the inner
hinge toward the outer hinge. There are holes punched in both sides in the same
place but a note saying to leave the holes on one side empty. I am guessing the
other rib is just for the trim tab........... right?

I am guessing the kit I have has the larger opening for clearance. The
diagnal bracing for the 3500 upgrade is prepunched in the skin. It gets real
confusing trying to follow the 2500 manual and then decide what 3500 steps go where.
I am still trying to figure out the fluting pliers much less all the other
stuff.

Thanks, Brad

Brad, What drawing or page # are you looking at in the manual. Also what is
the date on your elevator section? Should be 18/07/01.

Sounds like you are talking about the "extra" rib that is on the left side
for the elevator trim. Eventually the trim servo will go between this rib
and the one next to it. The spar is symmetrical so it doesn't matter which
way you lay it starting out, hence holes on both sides.

Note that there are two small trim ribs in the tab itself that the trim
control horn will mount onto. Earlier drawings did not show this and some
fast build elevators have come with the horn only mounted into the skin.
The Rebel has a SB out on a similar problem.

Also not a bad idea to add some angles to the ends of the trim spars to tie
them into the ribs at either end.

Brad, you can download all of "new" chapter 3 from the Murphy site as Adobe
PDF file. Go to http://www.murphyair.com/SUPPORT/Rev-Super.htm and you can
get some of the updated chapters.

I am looking at fig 3.2.1 on page 5 chap 3. The date on top of the page is
05/01/00. I guess I have old drawings. I got my kit about a year ago. They
should have an actual moose manual out in a month or two right......haha.

Thanks guys

Brad
