SR battery location

I am putting the same battery on the cabin side of the firewall as my
airtanks are in the floor under the copilots seat. If you are using electric
start you should keep your battery fairly close to the starter.

SR and Moose builders,
This question came up when I read Don Boardman's latest query to
AeroElectric. Don, I noticed your comment regarding placing your
battery under the rear seats in your Moose. I thought I remember others
saying the farther back the better for weight and balance
considerations. With your M14, do you need addtional weight in the
tail? What are others going to do or have done with battery placement
in SR''s and Moose?

Thanks,
Tom Packard

Just checking out the Odyssey sit. I may go with a PC625, it is 2.2 pounds
lighter than the PC680 and only .75 inch thicker. With an air start seems
this would be more than enough?? The 545 could save another pound.

Hi Tom,

The battery is actually going in the bay under the Co-Pilot's seat. (Fuel
system is under the Pilots seat) With the seat full forward we will have a
door in the floor just aft of the seat.

As to weight and balance it looks like weight aft IS desirable. Randy and I
decided that we had items that we typically would carry, survival kit, tool
kit etc. that if placed in the rear of the rear baggage area will take care
of the CG when we are light. When we really want to load her up we have the
option of shifting or removing these items.

Placing the battery in the rear does help with empty CG and also adds to the
empty weight because of the additional length of "heavy wire" needed for the
installation.

Based on the above we decided to save a little useful load and place the
battery near the CG as to not aggravate the need for weight aft.

Regards
Don B.

Scott,

We have also looked at putting the battery behind the rudder pedals.
Not knowing the throw of the pedals or how we might eventually "finish off"
the cabin side of the firewall we moved to the underseat thing.
Where did you find room for the PC680 aft of the firewall?

Regards,
Don B.
